October 2025 Newsletter

Hello from Roost & Root, and happy October!

As the weather cools and leaves turn, it’s the perfect time to prepare our coops, gardens, and hearts for the season ahead. This month, we’re excited to share new beginnings and seasonal tips from our homestead to yours.

Why you’ll love them:

    • Available in 90 sq ft or 150 sq ft options for any size backyard
    • Easy to assemble with a complete hardware kit included
    • Built with the same sturdy and beautiful 100% cedar material as our chicken coops
    • Lots of great add-on options

Plant cold-hardy greens, start winter herbs, or simply keep your garden alive a little longer this year.

Why Grow Your Own Food — Especially Now

In a world of rising food costs and ever-changing systems, growing even a little of your own food is powerful. A greenhouse, a raised garden bed, or even just a row of garlic this October can mean fresh meals next spring.

Homestead benefits:

  • Fresher, more nutritious food
  • Less reliance on grocery chains
  • A rewarding family activity
  • A deeper connection to land and season

Starting small is enough — every seed is a step toward resilience.

🐓 Chicken Keeping Tip of the Month: Support Your Flock During Molt

As the days get shorter, your chickens may begin molting — shedding old feathers and growing new ones. During this time, egg production often slows, and your flock may look a little scruffy. Don’t worry — it’s completely normal!

Fall is pumpkin season — and it’s more than just festive decor! Pumpkin is a nutritious boost for your flock, especially during molt when chickens need a little extra support. Giving your chickens pumpkin can help support them during molting.

Why Pumpkins Are Great for Chickens:

  • High in Fiber: Aids digestion and keeps their systems running smoothly
  • Rich in Vitamins A & E: Helps support feather regrowth and overall immune health
  • Natural Antioxidants: Boosts immunity during seasonal stress
  • Hydration Boost: Fresh pumpkin contains plenty of moisture, helpful as weather shifts

While pumpkin isn’t a complete protein source, it’s a wholesome, seasonal treat that pairs well with other high-protein goodies — perfect for helping your flock through their feather renewals.

🏡 On the Horizon: ADUs Are Coming Soon
