The coop itself will standup to category one hurricane force winds without breaking. If you live in an area that will experience straight line winds greater than 35mph (tropical storm/hurricane force winds) you will want to anchor your coop to avoid the risk of it blowing over. The performance of the stakes is based on soil conditions (see table below). If you are worried about your coop being subjected to winds greater than about 80-85 mph winds, we recommend that you anchor your coop using piers or footers as described in the assembly instructions OR use much longer stakes than we sell, something 18″ – 24″ long. 10 inch long 3/8ths diameter stakes Galvanized for durability Fits existing holes drilled in your coop NOT recommended for sandy soils
